The hammer is used to destroy and build, in the art parlance, to murder and create. For me, the hammer is vital because I am in continually tearing things apart and rebuilding. If we apply this metaphor to our lives, it's also symbolic of how we live. Of all the things I do, I get the most satisfaction using the hammer; it connects me to my world. The camera is a device I use to connect to the world around me. The pen is my way to communicate. I still like to write letters in longhand. The act of taking the pen and scribing the letters is remarkable. It's very personal and private. in case: Hammer with wooden handle, forged steel head and electrician's tape, 14" M6 Leica camera with strap and 28 mm lens, 3" x 6.5" Blue fountain pen, 6" |
